Why do woodpeckers still peck at bark in the winter when there are no bugs beneath?

Mr Mole doesn't have a clue, not one, about what he is talking about. Wood peckers need to eat all year and they find their food, bugs and larvae, etc by pecking on the wood and listening for dinner to move and show itself. Their food is there all year or else they would move to some place where there is food.
